The History of the Estate
1299
The Count of Forez divided the seigneurial land of Valenches (its original spelling), where several families settled, including the d’Assier family, who would become the owners of the entire estate in the 18th century
1840
The estate was completely rebuilt by the d’Assier family. Only the original house, dating back to the 15th century, was preserved, along with the enclosure wall from the 17th century (1738) and the fountain near the dovecote tower, believed to date from the 12th century.
It was also during this period that the current road (D5) was created. The estate was then at its peak—vast and exceptionally well managed—making it unique in the region.
1843
The château, built in 1843 by the brothers Pierre and Joseph d’Assier, was later enhanced with corner towers (“pepper-pot towers”), as well as foundations and a chapel added in 1868. Two mills, including a rapeseed mill located downstream from the château, were destroyed.
The d’Assier family were among the first lords of Valinches, and the first to reside there, making them the estate’s historic family. In the absence of direct heirs bearing the d’Assier name, the estate was passed on to Joséphine de Sylvestre, cousin of the last d’Assier and wife of the Count de Chavagnac. The estate remained the property of the de Chavagnac family until 2014.
2014
The estate was taken over by Catherine and Gérald Pietroy, who notably renovated the large hall of the former stables. From then on, the estate began hosting its first weddings.
2019
Muriel and Bruno Faure fell in love with this authentic place and acquired it in February 2020. They then undertook the renovation of a large part of the buildings (2,500 m²), including the 1,100 m² château, to create a hotel and restaurant, develop new reception areas, and offer a wide range of activities—transforming the Domaine & Château de Valinches into an exceptional event venue.
